Curing Insomnia | The Natural Approach



For the vast majority of people, curing insomnia is nothing more than using a common supplement found in most drug stores and vitamin shops. This isn’t true in all cases, of course, but, it is true for those that suffer from the most common cause of insomnia.

Short-term insomnia normally lasts less than a week and is most often caused by a sudden change in your life. Melatonin is a hormone that comes from your pineal gland, located in your brain. It’s main function is to regulate your circadian rhythm, the “internal clock” that is present in all of us. When the level of melatonin in your body rises your temperature will fall a bit, your heart rate will slow, and you’ll become drowsy. Basically, higher levels of melatonin make it very easy for you to fall asleep.

But, here’s the rub…

Your pineal gland is stimulated by the lack of ambient light (as seen through your eyes). During daytime hours the gland lies dormant, only producing higher levels of melatonin after dark. I suppose that it’s Mother Nature’s way of telling us to sleep at night and work during the day.

The problem is…the gland can’t distinguish between natural light and artificial light. So, if you spend the hours before going to bed in a bright environment (working, reading, etc), your melatonin level will be very low and falling asleep very hard, if not impossible.

The good news is…in these cases, curing insomnia is a simple matter.
