Diets for Acne | Real Acne Treatment or Just Another Myth?

Let’s get something straight right from the start.
Diets for acne are effective.

Well…at least some acne diets are effective, and, of those that are, many are designed for a “quick fix” (ie: The 3-Day Diet) using foods and beverages that will remove excessive toxins, chemicals, and hormones from your body (a detox diet). While these diets for acne are very effective in the short run, they are usually a bit severe and not suited for long-term use.

These quick-fix acne diets do, however, offer a window into why diets for acne, when properly designed and followed, offer you the opportunity to get rid of your acne once and for all.

But…I’m getting ahead of myself. I think a quick review of the relationship between your diet and acne formation may be in order.

From a “big picture” standpoint, we all travel the same relative path in life. In our early teen years we all suffer through puberty, when our body’s hormone production makes the jump to light speed. Then, as adults, we are all exposed to the same chemicals and toxins that are in our clothes, homes, furniture, and just about everywhere else in our everyday environment, including the processed foods that we get in restaurants and grocery stores.

The point here is, we live in a world that is full of things that our bodies consider toxic, and when these toxins find their way inside of you, your body’s natural reaction is to eliminate them as quickly as possible. The difference between those that have acne and those that don’t lies in their body’s tolerance level for these toxins and it’s method of eliminating them.

Some people are blessed with bodies that have a high tolerance for these toxins and are able to remove them through their natural waste process. These are the people you hated in high school because they never even got a zit.

The rest of us are cursed with a low tolerance for this stuff and our body must find another way to deal with it. In some, the body simply emulsifies toxins in fat cells and stores them. That’s why you see few fat people with acne.

In others (like me!), the toxins are emulsified in sebum oil (the root of all acne pimples) and removed through your skin. This oil tends to pool in skin pores and hair follicles, providing a perfect breeding environment for the P-acne bacteria that lives on everyone’s skin. This is how acne pimples are born!

Effective diets for acne are designed to keep your body’s chemical and hormonal level below the threshold that triggers excess sebum oil production. The “quick” acne diets work to detoxify your body of foreign material that is already present, similar to a colon cleanse. Although they are effective, the results are usually short lived, as they do nothing to prevent the toxin buildup from reoccurring. And, since these types of acne diets tend to be a bit harsh and unpleasant, staying on it long-term would prove extremely difficult. For a detox acne solution, you might instead consider using an acne detox product like Acnezine, which will provide the same results, but is much easier on your body and your disposition.

Long term diets for acne take a different approach. They tend to be more proactive by lowering the amount of foreign material that you consume, and a bit reactive by including some detoxifying properties, as well. These acne diets are designed for long term use and, if properly followed, can be a permanent solution for acne.

A good example of these long term acne diets is Acne No More! developed by Mike Waldon, a certified nutritionist and health consultant. This program takes a holistic, or whole body, approach to acne treatment. I don’t know very much about holistic healing, but there are two things about this program that I do know. (1) I use it!   and   (2) It Works!

I’ve been following Mike’s program for almost 2 years and, after suffering with severe acne since the age of 13, I’ve been completely acne free for over 18 months. I must admit that, at one point, I almost gave up because the program did take a little time to show any effect. Once it took hold, though, my acne completely disappeared within about 90 days.

Anyway, whether you choose to try Acne No More! or not, the point of this article is to reassure you that, no matter what others may tell you, some diets for acne are effective. Just be careful in your choice, because some other acne diets aren’t.
